About Dvořák
|
|
|
|
When Antonín Dvořák died in 1904, he was recognized as one
of the greatest composers of the Western world. He distinguished himself in
almost every genre available to him, writing symphonies, concertos, chamber
and piano music, songs, operas, oratorios and church music. He was inspired
by the folk traditions of his native Bohemia, by the work of European masters
(especially that of Brahms), and by the music of black and Indian musicians
of the United States of America, where he spent three highly significant
years.
During our Georgetown Festival of the Arts, you will have the
opportunity to enjoy performances of a wide selection of his music and to
gain insights into his work through the lectures of scholars who have
dedicated their lives to helping people understand and appreciate such music.
Please join us in the celebration!
